QuickStart Guide to Assigning Roles in your Moodle Course

What is Assigning Roles?

This is the area of your Moodle course administration panel where you can control who has access your course, and what type of access they have.

Getting Started

Log into your course. Locate the Admnistration block. Click on Assign Roles.

To add users who have already created an account on RETA Moodle

Participants can visit the RETA Moodle site in advance and create an account. Once they have done that, you can add them to your course. If your Participant is already using RETA Moodle, you should add them manually as shown here.

  • Click on the RETA Participant Role (Student).
  • Search for the participant you are looking for by first name, last name or email using the search under the left Potential Users group. Select users (hold down control to select muliple users).
  • Use the arrow button to move the selected users to the left hand Existing Users group.
  • You can also move participants from Existing back to Potential.

To batch upload user accounts to RETA Moodle

Use this .csv spreadsheet to allow for batch upload of users. This option is designed for users who DO NOT already have an account on the Moodle site.

  • Download this .csv template  moodleimport.csv.
  • Use the template exactly as provided; the field names are used to match exactly with Moodle upload format.
  • Course names are optional. If used, please provide the exact shortname. This is found under your course settings in the administration block of your course.
  • Emails must be unique.
  • Send the template to your Moodle administrators.

Major Step 3 (name of step)
